Denture Problems

Dentures and partials rest on a ridge of bone. This bone will change and shrink up over time. An loose fitting denture /partial can cause sore spots and cause the bone to shrink up faster that normal. The less bone you have the less stable the denture will be so it is important to keep the denture fitting tight.

When they become loose a reline is placed in the denture. This is done by taking an impression in the prosthesis, sending it to the lab where they add new material to fit the changes in your mouth. This can easily be done in a single day. The average denture should be relined every 3-5 years.

A better solution is to place implants that can aid in retaining or supporting your denture. This can greatly improve your chewing function and general esthetics. The best part is when an implants are placed, it helps to retain bone and prevents bone shrinkage which adds years of sustainability.

Over time dentures will absorb bacteria, become stained and may present an odor. Clean them daily with a toothbrush and cleaner and soak them often overnight in a denture cleaner.
