If your tooth has been traumatized, is broken, displaced or expelled; you should contact your dentist immediately.
A very small chip may be corrected by enamel shaping. If the chip is a little larger, the best option may be a composite (white bonding) or a veneer. Larger chips and those that involve a broken cusps, generally require a crown. If the fracture involves the nerve, root canal therapy may be necessary before the tooth is crowned.
In extreme cases the broken tooth may have to be extracted. The missing tooth is best replaced (before the surrounding teeth shift) with an implant, bridge, or partial.
The sooner you have it addressed the better the prognosis. Call our office if your tooth chips.
